Black Self-Empowerment Tip #1 - Start a Website
Well seeing as this is supposed to be a website about black self-empowerment we here at Afro-Pick.com figured we should start with what we know. So here is tip #1 - Start your own website and monetize it. Obviously not everyone will be successful (we really hope we will be) but it fits in terms of being a small but empowering action that can lead to big things.
It is not even hard to do. There are several website builders out there that make it so you do not really need more than some basic computer skills to start your own website. We tried Wordpress, GoDaddy, Squarespace, and many others before settling on Wix. Went with Wix as our website builder because it allowed us to pretty much build the entire website in its editor for free without the usual limited trial thing the other builders did which allowed us the time to master it and get a real good idea of what the site would look like before throwing down cold hard cash. This is not to say there isn't more to learn but if you want a builder that will give you time to figure it out without pressuring you for a payment we recommend Wix.com.
The second thing is monetizing your website. There are many ways to monetize a website but for the purposes of this blog post, we will only mention the two we have actually tried out on this website. The first is Google AdSense. Google AdSense allows you to add text or image ads to your website (ours are in the footer and one on the home page in the sidebar) which pay you by the click. You get paid when you reach a minimum dollar amount of $100 within a month or once you hit that amount during a month. You will need a bank account as they only do direct deposit. We here at Afro-Pick,com plan to open an account with a black-owned bank once we actually make enough money to warrant it.
We mention that because we feel one way to empower the community is to use black banks and we feel that if you monetize your website and then direct deposit to a black bank that is a good means to empower yourself and the black community.
The second method we know is opening an Amazon Astore on your website. It took our staff about 30 minutes to open a store using the Amazon Astore program. It is real easy and does not require any programming skills whatsoever. You just give them your personal info, name of business, tax info, and you are good to go. You can link or embed your store once created and you get a percentage of whatever you sell.
If you have been exploring our website then you know we hope to someday spawn a black-owned business ersion of Amazon but until that day comes, Amazon Astore is a good way to monetize your website and empower yourself economically.
We hope you liked this Black Self-Empowerment Tip
