Poverty Week - A Proposal To Address Economic Inequality

We here at Afro-Pick.com want to promote an idea for every leader or extremely wealthy person of any country (but especially of those within Africa and the African Diaspora run by black people). We call it Poverty Week.

This is how the idea works:

For one week out of every year, all senior officials and the 50 wealthiest people within a country must live with and as the poorest people in their country. This means if the poorest is homeless and living on the street, then that senior official or wealthy person has to live with them for one week on the streets without any assistance.

In order for there not to be any cheating, we suggest that a lottery be established in order to choose which poor person is matched with a senior official or wealthy person.

The reasoning behind this idea is simple. Self-interest. We figure that if the wealthy and government officials knew that every single year they would have to live in the same manner as the poorest citizen of their country then they would be motivated out of self-interest if nothing else to do what they could to insure that living in poverty isn’t so bad for themselves.

We are sure this idea won’t gain traction among the elite but hopefully someone reads this and it sparks a debate about it. If you like this idea be sure to leave a comment.
